Big Sur Inspires Urban Transformation

Let Your Passion Guide You

When Erik Joule set out to renovate his Russian Hill condo he knew exactly where he would derive his inspiration. An avid outdoorsman, and traveler, Joule's mind landed in Big Sur (among other places). The home had been recently remodeled but he knew he knew he wanted to return its classic edwardian features to their rightful place but juxtaposed with modern and natural elements. He enlisted his favorite architects from a project in Venice Beach  and asked them to make sky lights riffing on the waves of the Pacific Ocean. He kept one half of his classic stair bannister and added a modern twist on the other railing. Rich American walnut adorns the countertops in the kitchen and the hall bath. His cabinets were a nod to mid century design as were the floating shelves in his office/den. And the hide-away bar was a show stopper.
